Mindfulness: Notice Your Surroundings

Stop…take a breath…release it slowly and gently…and look around you.Young Woman Standing with Arms Stretched Out

Still the running commentary in your mind, and just…notice.  Really see what’s in front of your eyes, hear each noise as if it were new to you.

If you are around others, really pay attention to what they are saying, how they are saying it, their tone, inflections, how they look and how their expression changes.

If you are alone, notice your environment — what you see, hear, smell, the temperature of the room, the weather.

Notice your body — how it is positioned, what it is touching, how each part feels.  Be aware of your senses and what they are telling you.

Notice your breath as it moves in and out of your nostrils, your lungs.  Notice the rise and fall of your chest and stomach.  Notice the peace within you.

Do not judge, just accept whatever is around you — it is what it is.  And you are part of it.
